This multicolor epoxy flake system is one of the fastest, easiest, and most cost-effective ways to turn a drab garage into a clean, high-impact space that looks like it belongs in an auto museum showroom.

Our DIY epoxy floor kits have been specifically designed with the goal of eliminating the need for expensive contractor installations. These kits are engineered for simplicity with the homeowner in mind with the ideal balance of strength, flexibility, chemical resistance, and cutting-edge adhesion professionals’ overcharge for.

Being the talk of the neighborhood has never looked this good!

This groundbreaking floor system delivers a garage or shop floor that performs as good as it looks. This is the kind of floor that makes neighbors stop mid-sentence. The kind that makes you leave the garage door open just a little longer.

NOTE: Proper PPE (personal protective equipment), including gloves, eye protection, and appropriate respiratory protection, must be worn at all times during the mixing and application of epoxy products.

Our pre-tinted, two-component base coat serves as both a durable-colored foundation and the binding layer for your decorative flake chips. With a high pigment load, it provides commercial-grade coverage and consistent color uniformity over new and existing interior concrete floors.

Each complete do-it-yourself kit includes more flake material than required, ensuring true 100% broadcast coverage without running short. The result is a full, uniform finish that looks undeniably professional as it effortlessly masks concrete imperfections, patchwork, and spider cracks, with added subtle sound-dampening qualities.

When applied to full refusal, the flake chips add a minimum of 5 mils of additional build, increasing durability and impact resistance. Unlike epoxy alone, these vinyl floor flakes will not amber. The true protection, however, comes from sealing the system with our high-performance polyaspartic topcoat. This crystal-clear protective layer locks in the flakes, enhances depth and color, and shields the surface from UV exposure, wear, stains, and abrasion. Once sealed, your floor maintains its original color, clarity, and clean, vibrant appearance for years to come.

IMPORTANT NOTES

How Do You Apply Pre-Tinted Flake Floor Epoxy To Concrete?

NOTE: Proper PPE (personal protective equipment), including gloves, eye protection, and appropriate respiratory protection, must be worn at all times during the mixing and application of epoxy products.

THOROUGH EPOXY FLAKE FLOOR APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Precautions: Allow 2–3 days before driving on your new epoxy flake floor. Avoid turning your front tires while stationary, as this can damage the surface. Do not drag or slide heavy items, as this may tear the flake layer. Use rubber or felt pads under equipment and furniture, and always lift—or properly protect—items when moving them.

  2. Clean the Floor: Thoroughly sweep and vacuum the concrete surface. Apply our Concrete Cleaner, Degreaser & Etcher to remove dirt, oil, and contaminants, then rinse completely to eliminate all residue. SkipGrind Primer may be applied while the concrete is still damp from cleaning.

  3. Fill Cracks and Holes: Open cracks and hairline fractures with an angle grinder to approximately 1/8" deep to ensure proper bonding. Fill all cracks and voids with KreteBond Concrete Crack Filler. The material cures in about 60 minutes and can then be sanded or ground smooth for a level surface.

    Complete Surface Prep Instructions

  4. Moisture: SkipGrind Concrete Primer Epoxy acts as a moisture barrier; however, we recommend testing your concrete before application. Tape a 2' x 2' plastic sheet (such as a garbage bag) tightly to the floor and leave it overnight. If moisture, bubbles, or dark spots appear beneath the plastic, the concrete is retaining moisture and may indicate a larger issue. If this occurs, contact us before proceeding.

    HOW TO TEST FOR MOISTURE

  5. Masking: If the garage walls are already painted, apply blue painter’s tape along the perimeter where the wall meets the floor, leaving a 1/8" gap above the surface. If you plan to coat the foundation block or baseboard area with epoxy and flakes, tape off above that section as well to ensure clean, sharp lines.

  6. Mixing SkipGrind 3-Part Primer: Pour the full contents of Parts A and B into a 5-gallon bucket and mix for 30 seconds. While mixing, slowly add Part C powder. Thoroughly blend, ensuring all material is fully incorporated by scraping the sides and bottom of the bucket.

  7. Apply SkipGrind 3-Part Primer: Immediately after mixing, pour the entire batch evenly onto the concrete surface. Using a notched squeegee, spread the material at approximately 100 sq. ft. per gallon. Work the primer into the concrete with a medium-bristle broom using circular motions to ensure proper penetration. Back roll to achieve a smooth, even texture, then back roll again in the opposite direction for uniform coverage. Coat any concrete block or cove areas along the perimeter as needed. No sanding is required.

  8. Mixing Floor Epoxy: Pre-mix the pre-tinted Part A for 3 minutes. Add the entire contents of Part B (1 part B to 2 parts A) into the Part A container, which is intentionally short-filled to achieve the correct ratio. Mix thoroughly for a minimum of 3 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom of the container to ensure a complete blend.

  9. Apply Epoxy Base Coat: While wearing spiked shoes, immediately pour the mixed epoxy onto the floor in 4"–6" wide ribbons, running perpendicular across the surface. Spread at approximately 200 sq. ft. per gallon until the bucket is empty. Do not turn the bucket upside down to drain, as unmixed material may affect the finish.

Using a 3/8" non-shedding roller with a phenolic (plastic) core, roll the epoxy forward and backward to distribute it evenly across the surface. Apply just as you would paint a floor, ensuring uniform coverage. Back roll in the opposite direction to level the coating. Coat any concrete block or perimeter areas as needed, and work your way toward the exit as you go.

  10. Flake Broadcasting: While the epoxy is still wet, and while wearing spiked shoes, broadcast the included flakes across the entire surface. For easier application, transfer flakes into a 5-gallon bucket and toss them upward, allowing them to fall evenly onto the floor. Apply to full refusal, fully covering the base coat. A properly broadcast floor will appear dry and uniform, with no shiny spots. If any epoxy is visible, continue applying flakes until complete coverage is achieved.

Apply flakes using heaping handfuls, tossing them upward and outward into the air so they fall naturally onto the wet epoxy. Use a light flicking motion, similar to feeding chickens, to help the flakes disperse evenly. Aim to broadcast 2–3 feet out in front of you, allowing for consistent, uniform coverage across the surface.

  11. Remove Excess Flakes: Once the flakes have fully cured into the epoxy base coat (typically after 12 hours), scrape the surface with a flat-edge trowel or floor scraper to remove sharp edges, protruding flakes, and loose material. Sweep with a stiff broom or use a leaf blower, then vacuum thoroughly to remove all remaining excess flakes after the surface is completely dry.

  12. Mix Polyaspartic Topcoat: Pour Part B into Part A and mix mechanically for 1–2 minutes using a slow-speed drill. Thoroughly scrape the sides and bottom of the container to ensure a complete blend. Only mix the amount that can be applied within 30 minutes.

  13. Apply Polyaspartic Topcoat: Using a 3/8" non-shedding roller with a phenolic (plastic) core, roll the polyaspartic coating forward and backward to ensure even coverage. Apply a thin coat at approximately 250 sq. ft. per gallon, maintaining a consistent wet edge across the surface. Back roll in the opposite direction for a smooth, uniform finish. Coat any concrete block or perimeter areas as needed, and work your way toward the exit. Do not allow the material to puddle.

WARNING! SLIP AND FALL PRECAUTIONS

OSHA and the American Disabilities Act (ADA) have now set enforceable standards for slip resistance on pedestrian surfaces. The current coefficient of friction required by ADA is .6 on level surfaces and .8 on ramps. It is recommended that the use of angular slip-resistant aggregate in all coatings or flooring systems that may be exposed to wet, oily or greasy conditions. It is the contractor and end users’ responsibility to provide a flooring system that meets current safety standards. WideNond® or its sales agents will not be responsible for injury incurred in a slip and fall accident.

Handling & PPE Precautions

Use only with adequate ventilation. Appropriate cartridge-type respirator must be used during application in confined areas. Avoid contact with skin. Some individuals may be allergic to epoxy resin. Protective gloves and clothing are recommended.
